This calculator sums the calorie values you enter for each ingredient in a recipe, then divides by the number of servings to get calories per serving. It's a summation tool, not a nutrition database — it doesn't look up ingredient calories on its own, and it isn't a substitute for professional dietary advice.
How the calculation works
The calculator adds up the calorie value you entered for every ingredient row to get the recipe's total calories. It then divides that total by the number of servings you specify, clamped to a minimum of 1 so the result never divides by zero. The result updates live as you add, edit, or remove ingredient rows.
Where to find accurate ingredient calories
The most reliable source is the Nutrition Facts label on the ingredient's packaging, which lists calories per serving size for that product. For fresh or unpackaged ingredients (produce, raw meat, homemade items), the USDA FoodData Central database provides calorie values per gram, ounce, or common household measure. Because portion size affects calories, make sure the value you enter matches the actual amount used in the recipe, not the package's standard serving size.
Limits: a summation tool, not a nutrition database
This calculator does not calculate macronutrients (protein, carbs, fat), does not look up calorie values for you, and does not account for calorie changes from cooking — such as water loss during roasting, oil absorption during frying, or fat rendering out of meat. It is only as accurate as the ingredient values you enter. For a source-of-truth nutrition breakdown, cross-check with a nutrition-database tool or a registered dietitian.
