Resting Heart Rate
The number of times the heart beats per minute when completely at rest. Normal resting heart rate is 60–100 bpm; trained athletes often have resting rates of 40–60 bpm. A lower rate generally indicates better cardiovascular fitness.
Measured best just after waking, a lower resting heart rate generally reflects a stronger, more efficient heart that pumps more blood per beat. Tracking it over time can flag improving fitness, overtraining, or illness.
