Pace

The time taken to cover a unit of distance, usually expressed in minutes per mile or minutes per kilometer. Runners use pace to plan race strategy and training.

Pace converts raw speed into the numbers runners actually train and race by, making it easy to set even-split targets or predict a finish time. It is the inverse of speed — a lower minutes-per-mile means you are moving faster.
