The result card shows the total oil needed across every container, plus the total fuel volume and the number of containers. Each row in the table also shows its own oil amount, so you can premix container-by-container or all at once.

Oil per container
oil = fuel × (unit conversion) / ratio
For US units: oil (fl oz) = fuel (gal) × 128 / ratio. For metric units: oil (mL) = fuel (L) × 1000 / ratio. The ratio is the "X" in an X:1 gas-to-oil mix (e.g. 50:1 means 50 parts gasoline to 1 part oil). 1 US gallon = 128 fluid ounces; 1 liter = 1,000 milliliters.
The batch table applies the same ratio and unit system to every container, then sums each container's individual oil amount and fuel volume into a running total.

At 50:1, container 1 needs 2.56 oz of oil and container 2 needs 6.4 oz, for a running total of 8.96 oz of oil across 3.5 gal of fuel. Adding more containers just extends the same running total — no need to re-do the math for each can.
At 24:1 in metric units, the three tanks (50 L total fuel) need 2,083.3 mL of oil combined — roughly 2.08 liters of two-stroke oil. Selecting the "Older Carbureted Outboard" preset sets the ratio automatically so you don't have to remember it dockside.

Limits and edge cases

This calculator assumes a linear ratio-based mix and does not account for oil density differences between synthetic and conventional two-stroke oils, which are formulated to be measured by volume regardless. It also does not track fuel shelf life — premixed two-stroke fuel degrades faster than plain gasoline and is generally best used within 30-60 days. If your equipment's manual specifies a mix method other than a simple volumetric ratio (rare, but it happens on some older designs), follow the manual instead of this calculator.
