eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate)
A measure of kidney function indicating how much blood the kidneys filter per minute, estimated from creatinine, age, and sex. Normal eGFR is 90+; below 60 indicates chronic kidney disease.
The estimated glomerular filtration rate approximates the milliliters of blood the kidneys clear per minute. It is calculated from a blood creatinine level combined with demographic factors, and a sustained drop below 60 is a defining threshold for chronic kidney disease.
